Groton, Milbank split Legion doubleheader

MILBANK – Groton used a pair of big innings in a 9-2 win over Milbank in the first game, before the hosts recorded a 5-4 walk-off victory in the nightcap in American Legion baseball on Tuesday.

Groton scored four runs in the first inning and five runs in the seventh in the opener.

TC Schuster and Braeden Fliehs had RBI singles in the first, while Carter Simon, Schuster, and Tristin McGannon drove in runs in the seventh.

Simon and Schuster each drove in two runs for Groton.

Keaton Johnson produced a one-out sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning plating Tyler Heinje as Milbank grabbed a walk-off win in the second contest.

Heinje came on in relief in the second inning and struck out six batters while allowing just one run.

Jordan Schwan and Alex Abeln each had RBI hits for Groton, which loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fifth, but failed to score.
