HARTFORD – Aberdeen Roncalli finished third in team points at the West Central Early Bird golf tournament on Tuesday, led by Harper Schnabel who also finished third.

The Cavaliers recorded a team score of 315, 14 strokes behind Dakota Valley and Vermillion, which tied for the team title with scores of 301.

“It was good to play against Vermillion and Dakota Valley,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy, “to see what we need to do as a team.”

Schnabel fired an even-par 72. Trey Hansen of Vermillion won the event with a 4-under-par 68, followed by Matt DeBeer of Dakota Valley with a 70.

Roncalli’s Lucas Daggett was 12th with a 77. Other Cavalier golfers included Jesse Hernandez who was 27th with an 82, Finn Anderson who was 31st with an 84, and Owen Vogel and Matthew Gerlach who both shot rounds of 89.

“I’m happy with how they played today,” Murdy said of his golfers. “And now we know what we need to work towards.”

The Cavaliers continue their busy week with their third event in four days when they play at the Milbank POET Invitational on Thursday.
