MITCHELL – Led by a top-10 effort and three top-15 finishes, the Aberdeen Roncalli boys’ golf program solidified its third place showing at the Class A state golf tournament, which wrapped up Tuesday at Lakeview Municipal Golf Course.
Harper Schnabel carded a 75 in Tuesday’s round which, paired with his 72 from Monday, put him at a 3-over for the tournament and earned him a ninth place finish in the individual standings.
Lucas Daggett chimed in at a 5-over 149, good for 13th place, while Finn Anderson was one stroke back in a tie for 14th, giving the Cavaliers three players in the top 15.
Owen Vogel’s total of 160 – Vogel shaved 10 strokes off his day 1 round – rounded out the Cavaliers’ scoring contingent. Roncalli was also in third following Monday’s action.
Vermillion, which had both the medalist and the runner-up, finished with an overall 6-over score to win the team title. Dakota Valley’s runner-up score was just five strokes better than Roncalli.
“It was a great season,” said Roncalli coach Chazz Vigil. “We obviously would have liked to come out on top, but I’m proud of how the boys played and you have to give props to Vermillion for how they played.”
Amongst other area golfers, Sisseton’s Luke Nielsen finished in a tie for 18th, while Groton’s Jace Johnson tied for 40th overall.
