MILBANK – Aberdeen Roncalli won the team championship during the Region 1A Golf Tournament on Monday, and Groton’s Brevin Fliehs captured the individual title
The Cavaliers finished with a team total of 348, seven strokes ahead of runner-up Groton.
“It was fun to watch the kids compete today for 18 holes in those tough windy conditions,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “Good to see some hard work pay off for all the boys today.”
Lucas Daggett led the Cavaliers with an 83, good for third place, one stroke ahead of teammate Finn Anderson in fourth. Jesse Hernandez tied for 11th with 90, and Gannon May was 14th with a 91. Matthew Gerlach was right behind tied for 16th with a 95.
“Every one of them had something today that they did very well, but they always want to keep improving,” Murdy said. “Doesn’t matter if they win, they want to get better. I enjoy coaching these kids.”
Milbank’s Jonathan DeBoer was second indivdually with an 81, leading three Bulldogs in the top 10. Charlie Peery and Owen Fischer finished among a three-way tie for sixth with rounds of 86.
Next week’s State A Tournament takes place Monday and Tuesday at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford.
