OMAHA, Neb. – The Aberdeen Smittys finished play in the Battle of Omaha American Legion Baseball Tournament on a high note Saturday morning.

Aberdeen scored 10 runs in the final three frames for a 12-4 win over Bellevue East. The Smittys racked up 15 hits in the triumph, while Drake Soderlund and Jackson Post combined on a five-hitter.

“Overall great game. We had great starting pitching and to be fair, we had great pitching this whole weekend,” said Aberdeen coach Josh Steinwandt. “I told the boys that the way we played today is what we are capable of doing every time we play.”

Bellevue jumped in front with a run in the top of the first, before Aberdeen responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Joe Cogley drove in one of the runs with a single, before scoring on a wild pitch.

The Smittys scored four times in the bottom of the fourth. Karson Borge and Post each had run-producing singles, and Cogley added a two-run single.

Aberdeen ended the contest with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cogley started the scoring with an RBI single. Bennett Eisenbeisz and Porter Lozenski each drove in a pair for the final margin of difference.

Borge led the Smittys with four hits. Cogley followed with three hits and also drove in four. Post and Levi Hoffman each finished with two hits, as Aberdeen capped its five-game stand at the tourney with a 2-3 record.

“Karson Borge with four hits today and throughout the whole lineup today everyone was a tough out,” Steinwandt said. “Really proud of getting the second win down in Omaha.”

Aberdeen now has a break before playing at Pierre on Wednesday.
