BISMARCK, N.D. – The Aberdeen Wings are moving on.
The Wings finished off their best-of-5 NAHL Central Division playoff series with a 6-2 win over Bismarck Monday night. Aberdeen pulled away from a 2-2 tie with four unanswered goals, three coming in the final period.
“These guys were determined,” said Aberdeen coach Scott Langer. “Completely bought into what it takes to beat the Robertson Cup champions.”
The Wings got off to a good start when Matthew Martin scored less than three minutes into the game. However, Aberdeen managed just one more shot in the next seven minutes as the Bobcats leveled the score. The hosts owned a 17-5 advantage in shots in the opening period.
Aberdeen moved back in front in the second period on a goal from Caden Lee, but once against Bismarck responded to tie the score.
Jibber Kuhl put the Wings on top with 49 seconds left the second period and this time there was no response from the Bobcats.
Owen Pitters provided an important insurance goal midway through the final period, and Brody Dustin added two empty-net goals for the final margin of difference.
Pitters added a pair of assists in addition to this goal.
Like they had the majority of the series, the Wings outplayed Bismarck down the stretch, and for the second time in a road victory outscored the Bobcats 3-0 in the final period.
“I think we have been preparing the right way,” Langer said. “We’ve been a good third-period team.”
Bismarck outshot Aberdeen 37-25, but Willum Braun came up with 35 saves in goal for the Wings.

Aberdeen now moves on to another best-of-5 series against the Austin Bruins, starting this weekend with the first two games Friday and Saturday in Austin.
“Austin will be a tough match,” Langer said, “but we will be going hard.”
