AUSTIN, Minn. – Aberdeen goalie Willum Braun stopped all 30 shots he faced as the Wings defeated Austin 2-0 Saturday night to even their NAHL Central Division Playoff Series at one game apiece.
“Willum gave us the chance to win all night long,” said Wings coach Scott Langer. “He has been fantastic in the playoffs and his numbers prove that.”
Aberdeen received the only goal it needed in the opening period when Brody Dustin found the back of the net off assists from Owen Pitters and David Hruby with 4:56 left in the period.
The Wings were stellar on the penalty kill all evening, preventing the Bruins from scoring on their five power play chances.
Easton Edwards added an empty net goal in the closing seconds for the final margin of difference.
Aberdeen has now gained home-ice advantage following a split of the first two games in Austin.
“I think in this division you have to be happy splitting when you start on the road,” Langer said. “More importantly, you have to capitalize at home.”
The series now shifts to the Odde Ice Center in Aberdeen for Games 3 and 4 on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Puck drop is 7:15 nightly.
“Wings fans get two more games at the Odde,” Langer said. “We are always blessed to play in front of our loyal fans.”
