Plenty of returning football firepower across region

Whether playing in the 11-man ranks or competing in 9-man, there are numerous standout football players scattered throughout the region this fall.

In Class 11B, few people have garnered more attention in the area than Mack Saxon of Mobridge-Pollock. The Northern State recruit is a load to bring down from his running back position.

Deuel has a variety of options to go this season including quarterback Aiden Sievers, as well as speedy running back Gavin Kloos. Nathan Fieber will be a force on the line for the Cardinals. Clark-Willow Lake will rely on quarterback Joey Ries, while Jakob Steen is a valuable player for the Cyclones on both sides of the ball.

In Class 9AA Bennett Suther will power a balanced attack for Britton-Hecla, while Hamlin will be led by Boden Stevenson. Few teams anywhere in the state will possess a taller target at tight end than Waubay-Summit in 6-foot-7 Hogan Hlavacek.

In Class 9A Castlewood has already bolted out of the blocks quickly with a pair of quality wins over Hamlin and Howard. The Warriors are led by Augustana commit quarterback Kamden Keszler. Trevor Everson is also a potent weapon at running back. Shay Knust is coming off a five-touchdown performance for Ipswich. The Tigers also have a proven performer in quarterback Hayden Schlosser.

Faulkton has moved up to 9A this season after being a force in Class 9B. The Trojans will be led by senior lineman Kamdryn Rhodes, and senior back Landon Coyle. Only a sophomore, Easton Moore will be a major playmaker for Sully Buttes, and Kobe Wherry is a top performer for North Central.

There is also no shortage of talent in 9B this season. Warner moved down to this division and has a major special teams weapon in Alec Mikkelsen who has already booted three field goals this season, including a 50-yarder. All-state lineman Noah Bakeberg will anchor one of the top defenses in the division. The Monarchs will also rely on athletic running back Beckham Cantalope.

Hitchcock-Tulare features a dynamic duo in Devin Enander and Max Gilbert. Both finished with more than 260 yards in the same game recently, a feat seldom accomplished on the gridiron. Porter Gregg will power the Herreid-Selby Area offense this fall while Kaden Russell will spearhead the defense from his linebacker spot. Jack Simon will be a key component on the Gettysburg squad.

Previews of Aberdeen Central and Aberdeen Roncalli were posted earlier this season.
