AUSTIN, Minn. – The Austin Bruins scored a pair of third-period goals to grab a 3-2 win over the Aberdeen Wings in their NAHL Central Division playoff hockey series opening game Friday night.

After the hosts scored the first goal of the contest, Aberdeen took the lead on a pair of goals.

Jibber Kuhl found the back of the net to tie the score with 8:25 left in the opening period on assists from Easton Edwards and Matthew Martin.

The Wings then went ahead with the only goal of the second period when Brody Dustin scored on assists from Owen Pitters and David Hruby.

However, the Bruins produced two goals in the third period to secure the victory.

“We played well, then became a selfish team that turned pucks over,” said Wings coach Scott Langer. “No team wins in the playoffs when you play 1-on-1 hockey. They are too good of a team to make those mistakes.”

Austin outshot the Wings 31-25.

Game two is this evening at 7 p.m. The series then shifts to Aberdeen next weekend.

“Game’s over,” Langer said. “Moving on to (Saturday).”
