IPSWICH – Ipswich put Aberdeen Christian into an early hole Tuesday night and the Knights were unable to recover as the Tigers grabbed a 40-24 in a Lake Region Conference girls’ basketball game.
Knights coach Cristhian Martinez said several factors led to the loss.
“We started very slow and couldn’t make any basket pretty much the entire game,” Martinez said.
The slow start allowed the Tigers to build a 17-5 first-quarter lead. However, the Aberdeen Christian defense held down Ipswich in the second and third quarters as the Tigers outscored the Knights by just a 10-8 margin.
Despite the strong defensive effort, the Knights offense struggled to gain any momentum as Ipswich pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn the win.
“Our defense continues to improve,” Martinez said. “It wasn’t our night on offense.”
Jalyssa Hutson led Ipswich (2-13) with 10 points, while Marley Guthmiller and Anna Nierman each contributed nine. The Tigers will travel to Wilmot on Thursday.
Aberdeen Christian (2-14) was led by Jolie Fogarty with eight points, while Chloe Bosma had seven points and four steals. Sophia Fogarty had six points and seven rebounds.
