A total of six area basketball players are recognized on South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association all-state teams announced today.

The group includes four players in Class A and a pair in Class B.

State A champion Hamlin has a pair of players on all-state teams led by Class A Player of the Year Kami Wadsworth. Florence-Henry and Sisseton each have one all-state selection. Wolsey-Wessington has two players on Class B squads.

Here is a capsule look at each of the area players on the all-state teams:

CLASS A

FIRST TEAM

Kami Wadsworth, Hamlin. This senior was nearly unstoppable in leading the Chargers to the State A championship. She averaged 22 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. “She handles the ball and shoots like a guard yet has power and strength on the inside,” said Hamlin coach Tim Koisti. “She was constantly double teamed but always found a way to score or find her open teammates.  No matter what teams tried to do defensively, she found a way to help her team overcome it.”

SECOND TEAM

Caylin Kelly, Florence-Henry. Kelly, a junior, averaged 15 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists this season for the Falcons. “Caylin Kelly has a motor that doesn’t stop. She is a two-way player that is extremely coachable,” said Florence-Henry coach Mitch Reed. “She is a leader that people look to when we are struggling. I look forward to seeing the work she puts in this summer and the growth that will come from it.”

THIRD TEAM

Krista Langager, Sisseton. This sophomore was a key reason why the Redmen made it to their first state tournament in more than a decade. She averaged 15.8 points and 9 rebounds per contest. “Krista has come into her own this season, she continues to build and learn from each game,” said Sisseton coach Sara Lincoln. “Her excitement and determination drive her to continue to be a dominant force in the paint.”

Addie Neuendorf, Hamlin. Just a freshman, Neuendorf play a key role in Hamlin’s run to the state title. She averaged 11.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. “She controlled every aspect of the game for us, especially the pace of the game. She knew when to push and when to pull back and set up our half-court offense,” said Hamlin coach Tim Koisti. “But it wasn’t just offense, Addie always drew the other team’s best player on defense. Her ability to shut players down was a huge key to our team defense.”

CLASS B

FIRST TEAM

Mallory Miller, Wolsey-Wessington. At 6-foot-4, Miller was a dominating force on both ends of the floor. The senior averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and nearly 3 blocks per game. “Being able to shoot the ball like she can, handle the ball, pass the ball, see the floor while being 6-4 is remarkable. Her presence took a lot of pressure off the other girls on the team and gave her teammates more opportunities to succeed,” said Warbirds coach Josh McGillvrey. “Her wingspan on top of her height made it very difficult to teams to score in the paint on us.”

SECOND TEAM

Leah Williams, Wolsey-Wessington. This senior, who Warbirds coach Josh McGillvrey called the “heartbeat to the team,” averaged 18.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. “She controlled the tempo offensively and defensively for us this season. We didn’t see a lot of pressure defenses this season because of her ability to handle the  ball and getting it up the court,” McGillvrey said. “Every game she wanted to take on the challenge of guarding the opponent’s best player and we had a lot of success with that.”
