Class B Track and Field Leaders

While action was limited to a few last chance meets since the last leaderboard, a trio of area athletes managed to move up the ranks among the Class B track and field leaders.

Kendal Uttecht of Wolsey-Wessington inched up from third to second in the 800-meter run and climbed into the leaders in the 1,600-meter with the sixth-best time. Wilmot’s Ethan Schwenn is now fifth in the 800, and Addison Heinje of Waubay-Summit is sixth in the javelin.

Area athletes continue to set the standard in a variety of events heading into this week’s state meet. In the boys’ division Ipswich’s Kyle Hettich leads the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, Castlewood’s Brody Bass tops the 110-meter hurdles, Ty Boekelheide of Northwestern leads the triple jump, Warner’s Chays Mansfield leads the pole vault, and Faulkton’s Spencer Melius tops the javelin. In the girls’ division Northwestern’s Ella Boekelheide sets the pace in the 800, 1,600, and 3,200, Jalyssa Hutson of Ipswich leads the pole vault, and Ipswich has the fastest time in the 3,200-meter relay.

Area boys among this week’s leaders are Aberdeen Christian’s Dylan Hofer who is second in the triple jump, third in the long jump, and seventh in the 100, Brody Davis of Ipswich who is second in the pole vault, Melius who is third in the 110 hurdles followed by Warner’s Beckham Cantalope, and is fourth in the 300 hurdles followed by Cantalope in sixth and Bass in eighth, Ipswich’s Tate Hogie who is third in the discus, Faulkton’s Weston Senn who is third in the javelin followed by Marty Mickelson of Waverly-South Shore in fourth, Bass in sixth and Jett Yackley of Sully Buttes in eighth, Tyson Schumacher of Herreid-Selby Area who is fourth in the triple jump followed by Logan LaBrie of Hitchcock-Tulare in sixth and Hudson Barber of Sully Buttes in seventh, LaBrie who is fifth in the 100 and seventh in the 200, Warner’s Easton Bruns who is seventh in the pole vault followed by Jared Wherry of North Central in eighth, Sully Buttes’ Kadyn Westergren who is eighth in the shot put and Easton Moore who is eighth in the discus.

Area boys’ relays in the leaders include Aberdeen Christian which is second in the 400, Ipswich which is third in the 400 and eighth in the 800, Warner which is eighth in the medley, and Faulkton which is eighth in the 3,200.

Area girls among this week’s leaders are Ipswich’s Isabella Galbraith who is second in the 3,200 followed by teammates Madisyn Gellhaus in fourth and Jayda Stiles in fifth, and third in the 1,600 followed by Gellhaus in fifth and Uttecht in sixth, Aberdeen Christian’s Shawnteah LaCroix who is second in the triple jump followed by Kaydee Mackner of Warner in third and North Central’s Lindsey Geier in eighth, Warner’s Miah Leidholt who is second in the high jump followed by Sunshine Bible Academy’s Cierra Mickelson in seventh and teammate Soleil Mickelson in eighth, Peyton Schnabel of North Central who is second in the pole vault followed by Warner’s Avery Bruns in third and Courtney Leidholt in sixth, Mackner who is third in the long jump followed by Breanna Jochim of Herreid-Selby Area in sixth, Boekelheide who is fourth in the 400, Jillian Fischer of North Central who is fourth in the discus followed by Tristan Geditz of Ipswich in fifth, Hoven’s Dannika Kaup who is sixth in the 300 hurdles and seventh in the 100 hurdles, Langford Area’s Paytyn Marlow who is sixth in the 100 followed by Jochim in seventh and Ipswich’s Sophie Knittel in eighth, Waubay-Summit’s Addison Heinje who is sixth in the javelin, and Ipswich’s Marley Guthmiller who is seventh in both the 300 hurdles and the 800.

Other girls’ relay teams in the leaders include Northwestern which is second in the medley and sixth in the 1,600, Ipswich which is fourth in the medley and seventh in the 1,600, Warner which is sixth in the 400, seventh in the 3,200 and eighth in the 800, Wolsey-Wessington which is sixth in the medley, Langford Area which is eighth in the 400, and Gettysburg which is eighth in the 3,200.
