SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central was unable to capitalize early and forced to play from behind late in a 2-0 non-conference boys’ soccer setback to Sioux Falls Lincoln featuring a matchup of one-loss Class AA squads Thursday afternoon.

“We played well in certain moments, but didn’t capitalize on their mistakes,” said Central coach Lance Mohr. “We spent too much of the game not playing our style and calming the game down.”

The Patriots scored a goal in the opening half and things got even more challenging for Central when goalkeeper Zander Kuhfeld had to exit the game after he received a red card challenging a ball.

“It was a tough decision he had to make,” Mohr said.

Lincoln added a goal in the second half on a corner kick when Central was forced to play with 10 players.

“We had some good chances early, but maybe rushed some of our attempts,” Mohr said.

It was a demanding week for the Golden Eagles, having to face both Tea Area and Lincoln on the road in back-to-back games within three days.

“Tough week schedule-wise and we gave it a good shot,” Mohr said. “We could not get the breakthrough we needed.”

Central, 9-2 on the season, returns home to host Watertown at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Brownell Activities Complex.

“We’ll take the lessons learned from the game and fix what went wrong,” Mohr said.
