BROOKINGS – A group of area athletes turned in big performances during the Scott Underwood Indoor Track and Field Meet on Monday.

Northwestern’s Ty Boekelheide won the triple jump with a leap of 42-feet, 10 1/4 quarter inches, with Milbank’s Sam Rick in second (42-4 3/4), and Aberdeen Christian’s Dylan Hofer in third (41-5 1/4).

Rick won the pole vault at 13 feet with Webster’s Jeron McCreary third (12-0), and Warner’s Paxon Johnson fifth (11-0).

Lucas Johnson of Great Plains Lutheran won the high jump at 6-2, with Clark-Willow Lake’s Bo Begeman third (6-0).

Milbank’s Jeter Scoular won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:24.57.

Hofer finished second in the 200-meter dash with a clocking of :23.68, and was part of the 400-meter relay team that finished fourth along with teammates Luke Kaiser, Eben Wurgler, and Ryder Shaving.

“The boys 4X1 was a strong first run,” said Knights coach Sam Bjorkman. “Good potential there.”

Bjorkman also pointed out the performances of Joseph Richards in the distance events.

“Joseph Richards is the story of the day for us,” Bjorkman said, “enormous PRs, 5 seconds in the 800, 9 seconds in the mile, and 35 seconds in the 3,200.”

Bjorkman said the hard work Richards has put in the last three seasons is paying major dividends.

“He’s much stronger and it affects every stride,” Bjorkman said. “Really good to see him make those jumps and position himself to make moves towards state this year as a sophomore.”

Miller’s Isaak Hunter was second in the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of :15.75, with Warner’s Beckham Cantalope third (:15.99), and GPL’s Milo Schumacher fifth (:16.38).
