It’s not the amount of shots a team takes, it’s the amount that go in.

The Aberdeen Cougars were outshot by a nearly 3-1 margin, yet still walked away with a 1-0 girls’ hockey victory over Oahe Sunday morning at the Odde Ice Center.

Addyson Keller found the back of the net with 58 seconds remaining in the game to give the Cougars the win.

“She was in the right place at the right time,” said Aberdeen coach Amy Munsterman-Wills. “She was able to get a step on their defender, get a shot on net, and it worked out in our favor.”

The Capitals outshot the Cougars 28-11, but Aberdeen goalie Chloe Vikander was up to the challenge in pitching the shutout.

“The girls played hard all the way through,” Munsterman-Wills said. “It wasn’t the prettiest game. Chloe was outstanding and kept us in it.”

The Cougars are now off until competing in the State Tournament March 5-7 at Mitchell. Aberdeen enters as the fifth seed and will face fourth-seeded Watertown in the opening round.

“I’m proud of the girls for how they ended the season and gave their all in our last league game,” Munsterman-Wills said. “That’s going to translate well in our mindset heading into the state tournament in two weeks.”
