SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central hung tight early, but was unable to overcome an O’Gorman onslaught in the third inning, falling 19-4 to the Knights in non-conference softball action Tuesday afternoon.

Central traded a pair of two-run innings with the host squad, answering O’Gorman’s two-run first with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Rachel Siefken drove in both runs on a line-drive single into center field, scoring both Addyson Keller and Aliya Torrigan.

After O’Gorman regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning, the Golden Eagles again pushed back in the top of the third. Jayla Breaw doubled home Ayrlie Waldo, who had led off the inning with a single and moved into scoring position thanks to O’Gorman’s second fielding error of the game.

Addison Ward then tripled home Isabella O’Day, who came in as a pinch runner for Breaw, and in the span of three batters, the Golden Eagles had not only tied the game, but were threatening to take the lead.

That rally fizzled out, however, and O’Gorman ended the game with a 15-run third inning. The Knights used six singles, two walks, an error, a dropped third strike and just one extra-base hit to drive in all 15 runs of the frame.

Breaw had two of Central’s eight hits in the game, while Waldo and Torigan each had a hit and a run scored for the Golden Eagles. Siefken drove in two runs from her No. 9 spot in the order.

As a team, the Golden Eagles recorded just one strikeout in 17 official at bats.

“We definitely hung on early, but had our one bad inning,” said Central coach Cassidy Neer. “We are working on cleaning up those things as we progress through the season.”

Ava Tobin went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three driven in for the Knights. She also had two of O’Gorman’s three extra-base hits.

Central is set to host Yankton Saturday afternoon for a 4 p.m. contest.
