REDFIELD – Aberdeen Roncalli went 3-1 at the Pheasant Fall Classic Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, including a win over Northwestern.
“It took us a bit to wake up … but I’m very happy,” said Roncalli coach Leesa Ware.
The Cavaliers faced three foes it had previously played this season. Roncalli lost to Aberdeen Christian 25-16, 30-28, defeated Florence-Henry 25-17, 24-26, 25-17, defeated Gettysburg 25-16, 25-21, and also gained a measure of revenge by defeating second-rated Class B Northwestern 25-21, 19-25, 26-24.
“We had a very slow start to the tournament playing Aberdeen Christian,” Ware said. “Florence-Henry has improved greatly since the last time we saw them.”
Roncalli, which was already short one player, ended up playing two starters short for its final two matches because a player left for a wedding.
The Cavaliers rolled past Gettysburg, before recording their win over Northwestern, which ended up winning the tourney.
“The girls played extremely well, kept the momentum and energy, and found all the right areas,” Ware said. “They were talking to each other and were able to find their holes on defense.”
Ware was pleased with the team’s performance on the day.
“Offensively, I thought we looked good today,” she said, “as well as defenisvely.”
The Cavaliers play at Britton-Hecla on Thursday.
