Northern State finished strong down the stretch to grab a 74-66 women’s college basketball victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolves trailed with two and a half minutes remaining before closing out the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game on a 12-3 run for the win on I Hate Winter weekend.

The Wolves jumped out to an early 21-10 lead after the first 8 minutes. The Mustangs responded with a 22-point second quarter to cut the deficit down to three points going into halftime.

Northern doubled its lead to six points heading into the final quarter, before Southwest surged in front with 8:38 left in the game.

Izzy Moore keyed the final surge for NSU starting a run of 10 points in the final 5:21 of the game. She made eight straight free throws. Regan Rus added a pair of foul shots with 20 seconds remaining.

Moore finished with 26 points for the second straight game. Rus came off the bench to produce a dozen.

The Wolves enter the final six games of the regular season with a 7-9 conference record sitting seventh in the NSIC as they look to make the eight-team cutoff for the NSIC Tournament.

Northern, 12-10 overall, hosts Minnesota Crookston at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Minnesota State Moorhead at 4 p.m. Saturday at Wachs Arena.
