Last year on Jan. 25, 2025: San Jose State defeated Wyoming 67-58 in a Mountain West Conference men’s basketball game. The coaches in the game were former NSU assistants Tim Miles (SJSU) and Sundance Wicks (Wyoming).
10 years ago on Jan. 29-30, 2016: The Aberdeen girls’ hockey team of coach Rob Weinmeister were cooking at home, beating Huron 12-0 Friday and Mitchell 12-0 Saturday. Aberdeen goalie Hailey Huff posted the shutouts while the offense was led by Hailey Gould, Kensington Eckhoff, Hailey Holland, Mikayla Santjer and Paige Snyder.
20 years ago on Jan. 25, 2006: South Dakotan Jana Lindsey, 21, has qualified for the U.S. Olympic team as an aerial freestyle skier. She will compete in the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Italy.
30 years ago on Jan. 28, 1996: A recent winter blizzard with wind chills of 50 below and greater have killed thousands of pheasants in the state.
40 years ago on Jan. 25, 1986: The Aberdeen Central boys’ basketball team defeated Aberdeen Roncalli 59-29. The Golden Eagles were led by Terry Pfeifer and Rich Gilman with a combined 20 points. Paul Hammond and Daryl Webb combined for 12 for Roncalli.
50 years ago on Jan. 27, 1976: Terry Dupris scored 33 points to pace Cheyenne-Eagle Butte to a 63-57 win over Mobridge.
