Golden Eagles fall to Washington in girls’ matchup

SIOUX FALLS – Fourth-ranked Aberdeen Central made a second half push against third-rated Sioux Falls Washington, but the Warriors pushed back in the fourth quarter to secure a 55-42 non-conference girls’ basketball victory Thursday night.

The Golden Eagles rallied from a double-digit deficit at the half to close to within five points by the end of the third quarter.

However, an 18-point outburst from the Warriors in the final stanza helped secure the win for Washington, which improved to 10-1 on the season..

Taryn Hermansen led the way for Aberdeen Central, now 9-4 on the campaign, putting up 17 points. Lauryn Burckhard added 10.

Washington was led by Dana Harpe’s 18 points and Josie Biteler’s 14.

Central, which has lost three of its last four games – all to top-three programs – is off for a week before heading back on the road next Friday to face Harrisburg.
