GROTON – Sydney Locke scored with eight and a half minutes left in the game as Groton knocked off top-rated Dakota Valley 1-0 in girls’ soccer action on Monday night.

Locke found the back of the net off an assist from Taryn Traphhagen. The win all but assured a home playoff game for the Tigers next week. Jaedyn Penning had a pair of saves in goal.

“Super proud on the execution of our game plan, slowing down their attack and us being the more aggressive side for all 80 minutes,” said Groton coach Matt Baumgartner. “We outshot, out defended, and played some of our best soccer of the year.”

Groton caps its regular season with a contest at Watertown on Thursday.
