HURON – Aberdeen Central couldn’t turn its winning ways into a win streak.

Top-rated Huron scored three times in the second quarter and once in each remaining stanza to seal a 39-0 Eastern South Dakota Conference win over the Golden Eagles Friday evening in Class 11AA football action at Tiger Stadium.

Winners of two straight games coming into Friday’s contest, Central’s offense struggled to maintain any momentum throughout the game. The Golden Eagles did put together a drive in the second quarter that pushed deep into Tiger territory, but Central could not convert on fourth down and gave the ball back on downs.

“We couldn’t get anything going offensively, and didn’t have the answers defensively, either,” said Central coach Justin Briese. “Made for a long night.”

Huron did not have the same struggle, turning that possession into its second touchdown of the night.

The remainder of the game went similarly, as Huron was able to move the ball methodically downfield on most of its possessions using a strong ground game as its base.

“We just didn’t make the plays that we needed to and get stops,” Briese said.

Up 26-0 at the break, the Tigers tacked on another score early in the third quarter and its final tally late in the fourth before running out the clock on its final possession.

Central, now 2-5 on the year, will travel to Sioux Falls next weekend to take on Class 11AAA’s second-rated Sioux Falls Lincoln. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Howard Wood Field.
