A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Sept. 7-13, 2025:
Last year on Sept. 2, 2024: The Team USA Teen-age Dream Team of Yankton native/USD freshman Miles Krajewski and badminton partner Jayci Simon of Michigan won silver at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. The Americans, both 19, played in the gold medal match against eventual champions Lin Naili and Li Fengmei of China. It was the first time in history Team USA medaled in Paralympics Badminton. Krajewski and Simon compete in Short Stature Badminton. Krajewski also is a distant relative to former NFL star Tom Brady.
10 years ago on Sept. 12, 2015: Sioux Falls native Shannon Johnson won the individual title in the USGA Women’s State Team Championship in Missouri. Johnson, a 13-time South Dakota Golf Association state champion, shot an event record 212 in her three rounds.
20 years ago on Sept. 9-10, 2005: Northern State hosted the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference-North Central Conference Crossover Volleyball Tournament. The Wolves went 3-0, led by Chelsey Deibert.
30 years ago on Sept. 12-13, 1995: On Sept. 12 at the Tomahawk Country Club in Deadwood, Garth Virkula of Rapid City aced the 170-yard No. 3 hole. The next day, his mother, Kay Virkula of Lead, aced the same hole.
40 years ago on Sept. 8, 1985: Rick and Jeri Krsnak of Sioux Falls defended their title as they won the South Dakota Golf Association Husband-Wife State Tournament at Lee Park in Aberdeen.
50 years ago on Sept. 13, 1975: Miller defeated Aberdeen Roncalli 11-6 behind scores from Jeff Miller (22-yard run) and Bob Wilber (37-yard field goal). Roncalli scored on a 58-yard pass from Kent Clausen to Darwin Geffre.
