Groton girls edge West Central

GROTON – The Groton girls’ soccer team won its fifth game on the season with a 1-0 decision over West Central on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers received a goal from Carly Gilbert assisted by Jerica Locke in the 25th minute, and the defense did the rest. Jaedyn Penning had five saves in goal for Groton.

“Things are smooth for us, as we are playing very good defense once again this year and capitalizing on our scoring chances,” said Groton coach Matt Baumgartner. “I’m happy with where we stand halfway through the regular season and the things we work on in practice are coming to fruition.”

Groton, 5-2 on the season, plays at Vermillion on Saturday.
