CLARK – The Clark-Willow Lake girls placed three runners in the top 10 to help secured the team championship at the Clark-Willow Lake Invitational Cross Country Meet on Thursday afternoon. Flandreau won the boys’ team crown.

Flandreau’s Faith Weise and Madison’s Dylan Gerdes won the individual races.

Clark-Willow Lake’s Kamryn Nesheim finished third, with teammates Cadence Bochek and Johanna Vandersnick, sixth and 10th, respectively.

Aberdeen Roncalli finished third in team points, six points behind CWL. The Cavaliers were led by Addison Cassady in fourth, Hazel Kannegieter in 11th and Taylor McComsey in 12th.

“It was a really hot field there, and we got to see some new faces there in Flandreau, Chamberlain, and Madison, just to new a few,” said Roncalli coach Casey Steele.

In this particular meet, three runners were scored instead of four.

“Clark-Willow Lake really, really put together a great race,” Steele said. “I think we were a little tired as a group. We’ve worked hard this past week and having two meets in one week gets a little tough on you. But we had a nice day and we bunched them up pretty good, so I’m pleased with that.”

Aberdeen Christian’s Joseph Richards was the top area boys’ finisher, coming in 10th. Teammate Andrew Schwab was 21st.

Roncalli was led by Ben Keller who finished 30th.

“On the boys’ side … we’re really a young group of boys going out there,” Steele said, “and we’re running more in pack than we have in the past so that was a good deal.”
