BRANDON – Groton Locke Electric had more hits than its opponent, but came up on the short end of an 8-2 decision against the Kimball-White Lake Nationals during the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Groton finished with 10 hits, but it resulted in just a pair of runs.
Kimball-White Lake struck first with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, and then produced two more runs in the fifth.
Groton cut the margin down to 4-2 with a run in the the top of the sixth on a two-out infield single from Bradin Althoff that brought in BJ Richter, and another two-out hit in the eighth as Althoff drove in Greg Heyne with a single up the middle.
However, the Nationals collected four insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to regain control. Groton left two runners on base in the final inning of play.
Althoff led the way offensively for Groton with three hits. Jonah Schmidt contributed a pair of singles.
Ryan Groeblinghoff suffered the loss, throwing five innings, giving up seven hits, four earned runs and striking out four. Alex Morris came on in relief, throwing three innings, giving up a pair of hits and only one earned run.
