Castlewood rolls past Clark at state amateur tourney

BRANDON – The Castlewood Ravens connected for four extra-base hits, took advantage of 11 walks, and collected a 10-1 win over the Clark Traders during the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Tuesday evening.

The Ravens broke the game open with five runs in the second inning. Adam Ching drew a bases-loaded walk, Gus Steiger had a sacrifice fly, and three runs scored on a pair of errors.

Castlewood tacked on three more runs in the sixth as Alex Gauer had an inside-the-park home run, and Aiden Stewart delivered a two-run double. Steiger homered in the seventh.

Meanwhile a pair of Castlewood pitchers combined to strike out 15 batters. Kellan Benck fanned 10 over seven innings, before Stewart added five Ks in the final two frames.

Clark’s lone run came in the top of the seventh on Aiden Erickson’s RBI single.

Steiger and Gauer each had two hits, while Steiger and Stewart each drove in a pair for the Ravens. Jakob Steen finished with two hits for Clark.

Castlewood will now take on the Platte Killer Tomatoes at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in the quarterfinal round.
