A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of July 6-12 2025:

Last year on July 7, 2024: Former NSU standout offensive lineman Jake Oliphant was named lineman of the year for his Arena Football League team, the Washington Wolfpack.

10 years ago on July 11, 2015: Aberdeen Central graduate Cory Johnsen retired from indoor football at age 32 after he and his Sioux Falls Storm teammates won their ninth championship in Johnsen’s 10 seasons with the team. Johnsen, a team captain, is the Storm’s all-time sack leader.

20 years ago on July 6, 2005: Former Madison and Kansas State track star Jeff Schemmel is the new athletic director at San Diego State. In 1974, he became the first South Dakotan to run a sub-four-minute mile while running for Kansas State.

30 years ago on July 7, 1995: Jaime Pauli of Milbank was named the Gatorade girls’ track athlete of the year for South Dakota.

40 years ago on July 12, 1985: Mark Amundson made a five-foot birdie on the 18 th hole to win the men’s state match-play tournament over Mike Krsnak. Amundson trailed by six strokes with seven holes to play. Both men are from Sioux Falls.

50 years ago on July 8, 1975: Mayville State College is selling its 119-foot by 60-foot maple basketball court. It comes in 14-foot by 43-inch sections. Bids will be taken until Aug. 7. Mayville will use the proceeds to help pay for a new $75,000 Tartan floor.
