NORTHVILLE – On an evening where runs and hits were hard to come by, it was a pair of errors that paved the way to the eventual winning run as Groton clipped Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern 2-1 in American Legion baseball action Monday night.

Groton struck first in the opening inning when Korbin Kucker doubled and scored on a single by Braxton Imrie.

W-I-N evened the score in the bottom of the second frame despite having a runner thrown out at home plate.

Logan Fischbach eventually scored on a fielder’s choice to tie the game at 1-1.

It remained that way until the top of the sixth when back-to-back errors produced what proved to be the game-winning run.

It was pitcher’s dual the entire contest as the teams combined for just seven hits and no batter had more than one hit.

Nick Morris went the distance for Groton allowing just three hits. Devon Fischbach had a strong performance on the mound for W-I-N, giving up just four hits.
