SISSETON – Groton is headed back to the State B Baseball Tournament following a 6-2 victory over Sisseton on Friday afternoon.

Groton led from start to finish on the way to the victory, scoring in the top of the first inning before tacking one five runs in the fifth.

Brevin Fliehs doubled and scored when Carter Simon singled in the next at-bat.

Gavin Englund drove in a run in the fifth before Nick Morris produced a two-run double. Another run scored on a wild pitch, and Alex Abeln drove in another.

Sisseton scratched across a pair of runs in the sixth thanks to a pair of Groton errors, as two runners scored on back-to-back ground outs.

Englund was in control the mound, allowing just two singles and striking out eight batters.

Groton is now headed to the state tourney, which takes place next week in Milbank. It will mark Groton’s third state tourney appearance in the past five seasons. Groton will face Winner-Colome in the opening round at 5 p.m. on Friday.
