SISSETON – Groton scored in four different innings on the way to a 6-1 win over Big Stone City in the semifinals of the Region 1B American Legion baseball tournament on Thursday afternoon. The win puts Groton into the championship today, where it will face Sisseton, which would have to defeat Groton twice to advance to next week’s State B Tournament in Milbank.

Groton pulled away from a 3-1 edge against Big Stone City, scoring the final three runs of the contest. Gavin Englund had a two-run single in the first inning, Brevin Fliehs doubled in the third and scored on a two-out single from Nick Morris, and Fliehs doubled again in the fifth and crossed home plate on an error. Groton’s final run in the sixth also came as a result of an error.

Jarrett Erdmann threw a complete game in the victory, scattering seven hits and striking out six batters.

Alex Abeln had three hits to lead Groton’s 10-hit attack. Fliehs and Carter Simon each contributed two hits.

Sisseton 2, Webster 0

Sisseton eliminated Webster 2-0 in a pitcher’s dual. Bradley Hansen allowed just three hits and struck out 10 in a complete-game shutout for Sisseton.

Webster’s Jack Shoemaker scattered seven hits and fanned nine batter in going the distance.

Sisseton’s Rory Current doubled in a third inning and scored on a two-out single by Max Dahlen.

Sisseton pieced together three straight singles in the sixth, but had runners thrown out at second and at home before LJ Cooks delivered an RBI single.

Webster had a runner advance to third base with one out in the fifth, but failed to score.

Current finished with two hits in the contest.

Sisseton 4, Big Stone City 3

Sisseton scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning on the way to eliminating Big Stoney City 4-3.

Rylan Anderson delivered a two-run single to put Sisseton up 2-1, before LJ Crooks, and Hughin Current each had RBI singles.

Big Stone City scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to cut into the deficit, but got no closer.

Crooks and Levi Nelson each had a pair of hits for Sisseton.
