FAULKTON – A pair of Faulkton pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout with a combined 15 strikeouts in a 1-0 win over the Northville Merchants in Amateur baseball postseason action Tuesday night.

Gunner Brueggeman had 10 strikeouts, before giving way in the seventh inning to Layne Cotton, who struck out five batters the rest of the way to preserve the victory.

The only run came in the fourth inning, when back-to-back walks put a runner in scoring position, before Carson Stephenson delivered an RBI single.

While Northville was unable to score, the Merchants had plenty of chances.

They had a single and two walks in the third inning, but a double play erased that threat. They loaded the bases with three walks in the fourth, Carson Simes led off the fifth inning with a double, and they had three straight walks to load the bases with one out in the seventh, but came up empty each time.

Faulkton received a two-out double from Ryan Soler in the seventh, but the Hitmen were unable to add an insurance run.

Brueggeman had two hits for Faulkton, while Logan Fischbach had a pair of hits for Northville.
