Sanford golf event features two playoffs

VERMILLION – Championships in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions were settled on playoff holes during the South Dakota Golf Association Sanford International Series Southeast Tournanent at The Bluffs Golf Course on Tuesday. The opening round was played at Dakota Dunes.

State A champion Rylan Horning of Rapid City, who plays for St. Thomas More, edged Vanessa Smith of Brandon after each finished with 36-hole totals of 155.

Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun, the State AA champion from Central, finished third with a two-day total of 159. Aberdeen’s Claire Crawford, who was runner-up at the State A tourney from Roncalli, finished 11th with a total of 173.

The boys’ field also featured a playoff hole which was won by Jackson Keizer of Orange City, Iowa over Carter Lingle of Elk Point after both finished with 36-hole totals of 148. Among the area top 25 boys’ golfers, Larz Tvedt of Wolsey who plays for Wolsey-Wessington tied for 11th with a 157, Jonathan DeBoer of Twin Brooks who plays for Milbank tied for 21th with a 161, and Harper Schnabel, who previously played for Roncalli, tied for 24th with a 162.
