A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of June 29-July 5 2025:

Last year on June 29, 2024: NSU and Watertown graduate Tanner Berg finished 17th in the hammer throw at the US Olympic Trials. Berg’s best throw was 233 feet, 7 inches, and he missed being part of the 12-man finals by less than six feet.

10 years ago on July 1, 2015: Doland native Tim Miles and his Nebraska men’s basketball program are the subject of an upcoming book to be released Oct. 1: “Nebrasketball: Coach Tim Miles and a Big Ten Team on the Rise.” Miles is a former NSU assistant.

20 years ago on July 1, 2005: Rapid City native Becky Hammon of the New York Liberty has been voted to start in the July 9 WNBA All-Star Game.

30 years ago on June 30, 1995: Marv Sherrill of Watertown has been named the national high school girls’ track coach of the year.

40 years ago on June 29, 1985: Custer won the 11 and under Junior Olympics boys’ basketball state tournament in Redfield. Warner was second and Redfield was third. Custer advanced to the national tourney July 21-27 in Orlando (FL).

50 years ago on July 1, 1975: The Turn In Poachers (TIPs) program that operated for a year in the Black Hills now has gone statewide, according to the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department.
