A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of June 15-21 2025:

Last year on June 18, 2024: Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney defeated Faulkton/Highmore 17-0 in an American Legion Baseball game played on the 1989 film “Field of Dreams” Field in Dyersville (IA). Taite Klumb was the winning pitcher and hit a grand slam while teammate Cain Tobin added three hits.

10 years ago on June 15, 2015: Yankton has finished hosting the nine-day World Archery Youth Championships that attracted 574 archers from 51 countries. The championships are held every two years with the last two tourneys in China and Poland. The last U.S. city to host was Ogden, Utah, near Salt Lake City, in 2009.

20 years ago on June 17, 2005: Mitchell native and NBA star Mike Miller made a hole-in-one at Central Valley Golf Club in Hartford. Miller aced the 128-yard sixth hole with a pitching wedge. Miller was in Sioux Falls for a basketball clinic.

30 years ago on June 18, 1995: Wildlife conservation officer Darrell Tilberg of Onida has earned the Governor’s Award for Employee Excellence for Community Service.

40 years ago on June 15, 1985: The Rapid City Post 22 American Legion Baseball program has a budget of $55,000 this summer.

50 years ago on June 15, 1975: Webster head track coach Terry Meek has added head football coach to his duties. The school also has hired Larry Warren as its boys’ basketball coach. Warren was at Wilmot where his teams compiled a 44-7 record over the last two seasons.
