Groton, Redfield claim Legion baseball wins

LAKE NORDEN – Groton and Redfield picked up American Legion baseball victories in much different fashion on Friday.

Groton scored in every inning but one in an 18-0 win over Lake Norden-Badger, while Redfield scored a late run to edge Big Stone City 6-5.

Brevin Fliehs had three hits, including a grand slam home run, drove in five runs and scored three times to power the Groton win. Nick Groeblinghoff plated runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

Korbin Kucker, Nick Morris, Groeblinghoff, and Lincoln Krause all had two hits in Groton’s 14-hit attack.

Jarrett Erdmann struck out six batters in going the distance on the mound.

Meanwhile, Redfield’s Tate Bray drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Eli Morrissette with what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jacksan Rude, Morrissette, and Chace Odland each had a pair of hits for Redfield, which scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Morrissette struck out seven batters, while Odland fanned six in the contest.
