GROTON – Both Groton and Clark-Willow Lake scored 20 runs in victories over Spearfish during American Legion baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.
Groton scored 15 runs in the top of the first inning on the way to a 20-4 win. The Tigers scored nine runs before the second out was recorded in the frame. They finished with 13 of their 19 hits in the inning.
Brevin Fliehs and Jarrett Erdmann each had multiple hits that produced runs in the frame.
Teylor Diegel had four hits and scored four times, while Korbin Kucker finished with four hits, drove in four, and also scored four runs to lead Groton. Fliehs added three hits, and plated three, and Carter Simon and Nick Groeblinghoff each had two hits. Karsten Fliehs and Jarrett Erdmann each knocked in a pair.
Clark-Willow Lake had a seven-run inning followed by an eight-run frame in its 20-10 win over Spearfish.
Cooper Pommer drove in a pair with a single and Jack Helkenn had an RBI hit in a seven-run third inning, while Helkenn produced a two-run double in an eight-run fourth inning.

Pommer also plated a run in the sixth, before Tyson Huber ended the game on the 10-run rule with a one-out single.
Pommer and Jakob Steen each had four hits to pace CWL’s 20-hit attack. Helkenn and Collin Gaikowski each finished with three hits. Helkenn added four RBI, while Pommer and Waylan Olson each contributed three.
