GROTON – Groton scored seven early runs on the way to a 9-3 win, before Milbank turned the tables with eight early runs in an 11-5 victory as the two teams split an American Legion baseball doubleheader Friday night.
The hosts scored twice in the first, four times in the second, and added another run in the third in the opener. Brevin Fliehs and Karsten Fliehs each had RBI doubles, and Carter Simon drove in a pair with a single in the second inning.
Aiden Kelly had a pair of run-producing hits for Milbank.
Teylor Diegel had a game-high three hits and also scored three times for Groton in the win. Simon ended up plating three runners.
Milbank scored six times in the top of the first frame in the nightcap on just two hits. Two runs crossed home plate on bases-loaded walks, two more came in on an error and another runner scored on a passed ball.
Mack Koplin and Nollen Sheeley each had RBI hits in the second as the visitors opened an 8-0 lead.
Groton’s Kellen Antonsen had a bases-loaded double in the bottom half of the second, but the Tigers could get no closer the rest of the way.
Josh Pederson, Koplin, Kelly each had two hits for Milbank.
