SIOUX FALLS – The Aberdeen Smittys got off to a good start to open their best of three series against O’Gorman in high school baseball Friday night, but it didn’t last long.
The Smittys scored the first two runs of the evening, before O’Gorman responded in a big way en route to a 12-5, 13-2 doubleheader sweep.
Aberdeen scored twice in the top of the first inning of the opener, one run coming in on an error and the other on a run-scoring single by Karson Borge.
However, O’Gorman answered with four runs in the bottom half of the frame. The Smittys scored two more runs in the second, as Grant Beyer tripled and scored on an RBI single from Jehiel Aviles.
The rest of the night belonged to the hosts, though, as O’Gorman seven unanswered runs to take control of the first game and then exploded for 13 runs over five frames in the nightcap.
The Smittys did score three more single runs throughout the two contests.
Joe Cogley had an RBI single in the fifth inning of the first game. Two walks and error led to a run in the first frame of the second game, and Jaxon Ladner walked, advanced on Aberdeen’s only hit – a single by Ridley Waldo – and scored on an error in the fourth inning of the nightcap.
Sully Schlimgen had three inside the park home runs during the two games for OG. John Lent recorded 11 strikeouts in the second game.
Brogan Moffitt finished with five hits for OG in the twinbill, including a pair of doubles.
