SIOUX FALLS – The Aberdeen Smittys fell in a pair of high school baseball games on Saturday. The Smittys suffered a 6-5 setback to Sioux Falls Roosevelt and also lost to Sioux Falls Washington 10-1.

Aberdeen jumped in front of Roosevelt with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Jehiel Aviles opened the contest with a lead-off double. After two walks loaded the bases, Joe Cogley delivered a two-run single.

After Roosevelt got one run back in the bottom of the second, the Smittys added two more runs in the top of the third inning to push their lead to 4-1. Jaxon Ladner singled to start the frame, moved to second on a ground out, stole third base, and scored on another ground out. Levi Hoffman then produced an RBI single to score Cogley.

However, Roosevelt then scored five unanswered runs to grab a 6-4 advantage.

The Smittys mounted a two-out rally in the top of the seventh inning. Cogley singled, stole second and scored on a single by Brayden Bowman. Another hit and an error put runners on second and third, however Roosevelt recorded the final out to end the threat.

Cogley had two hits, drove in two runs and also scored twice for the Smittys. Hoffman also had two hits, and Bowman also plated a pair.

Washington jumped on top of the Smittys with four runs in both the first and second frames, and then tacked on two more in the third.

Aberdeen scored its only run in the top of the fourth inning when Aviles singled, advanced to third on a double by Grant Beyer, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Dutenhoffer.

The Smittys are back in action today when they host Harrisburg in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fossum Field.
