SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Roncalli dominated in one dual, and then split two tight matches in tennis action on Friday.

The Cavaliers blanked Spearfish 9-0, and then fell to St. Thomas More 5-4, and edged Vermillion 5-4.

“Started the day strong,” said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell. “Two really hard-fought duals to end the day.”

Gannon May had another strong day for the Cavaliers, winning all three of his singles matches, and teaming with Will Haskell for three more wins at top flight doubles.

“Gannon May has been playing great tennis as of late,” Coach Haskell. “He is 13-1 in his last 14 matches.”

The Cavaliers were involved in a variety of close matches, losing a pair of super-tiebreakers, but also winning a tiebreaker and another match by the score of 10-8.

“We did a great job keeping our composure and representing Roncalli well, even in a couple very close, tough losses,” Coach Haskell said.

Ezra Feickert also had a solid day for Roncalli, winning two singles matches and teaming with Ben Goebel for three doubles wins at flight two.

“Ezra has found his stride and is playing some of his best tennis, also,” Coach Haskell said. “He and Ben had a great win, trailing most of the match against Vermillion and battled back to pull out the win.”

The Cavaliers will cap a busy two days of tennis with two more duals today, taking on Lennox and Madison in Lennox.
