A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of May 4-10, 2025:

Last year on May 7, 2024: One streak continued and another ended Tuesday at the Lake Region Conference track and field meet in Ipswich. The Ipswich boys won their seventh consecutive LRC championship, while the Warner girls’ claimed their first LRC crown since 1996. Ipswich had won every girls’ conference championship since joining the LRC in 2006. The Tigers finished three and half points behind Warner in the team standings. The Warner girls won one event, the 1,600-meter Sprint Medley Relay (Sophia Hoeft, Jaycee Jung, Kyleigh Schopp and Shaye Sauerwein).

10 years ago on May 6, 2015: The record-setting NSU baseball team under coach Dean Berry won its first NCAA Division II postseason game in program history.

20 years ago on May 7, 2005: SD Game, Fish and Parks reported that about 168,000 hunters harvested an estimated more than 1.6 million pheasants in 2004.

30 years ago on May 6, 1995: The South Dakota Golf Association has added a state tourney for men’s and women’s club champions from each nine-hole SDGA member club in the state. The Nine-Hole Clubs Tournament of Champions will be a one-day, 18-hole event Sept. 16 at the Chamberlain Country Club.

40 years ago on May 10, 1985: South Dakota native Robin Anderson of Brandt was named MVP of the Iowa women’s basketball team. The four- time all-state player for Clear Lake ended her senior year for the 20-8 Hawkeyes with 1,046 career points.

50 years ago on May 10, 1975: The regions 1A and 1B track meets were held in Britton. Double winners included Lynn Rystrom of Frederick in 1A, winning the 110 hurdles and 220-yard dash. In 1B, Jane Braun of New Effington won the 220- and 440-yard dashes.
