
While area Class B track and field athletes are having a stellar spring on the ground, there is a group that is setting the standard in the air among this week’s leaders.
There are nearly a dozen pole vaulters among the statewide leaders. The delegation is led by four Ipswich vaulters.
Brody Davis tops the boys’ division with teammate Rasmus Loken second. Jalyssa Hudson tops the girls’ division with teammate Marley Guthmiller second.
Other top vaulters include Warner’s Chays Mansfield who is fourth and Easton Bruns who is seventh on the boys’ side, and North Central’s Peyton Schnabel who is third, Warner’s Jordyn Jensen who is fifth, Alaina Dosch of North Central who is seventh, and Tatum Hanson of Warner who is eighth on the girls’ side.
Other area athletes who top open events include Kyle Hettich of Ipswich who leads the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, Leola’s Dustin Wurtz in the shot put, Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern in the 1,600-meter run. The Potter County girls have the best time in the 1,600-meter relay.
Area athletes who are currently in second are Hettich in the 400-meter dash, Gabe Johnson of North Central in the 3,200-meter run, Faulkton’s Spencer Melius in the 110-meter high hurdles and 300-meter intermediate hurdles, Landon Larson of Potter County in the long jump, Northwestern’s Ty Boekelheide in the triple jump, Emma Schlachter of Potter County in the 800-meter run, and Shawnteah LaCroix of Aberdeen Christian in the triple jump. The Ipswich boys are second in the 400-meter relay, and the Potter County girls have the second best time in the 1,600-meter relay, and Northwestern has the second fastest time in the sprint medley.

Other area boys among the leaders include Gabe Johnson who is third in the 1,600, Faulkton’s Weston Senn who is third in the javelin followed by Atticus Miles of Sully Buttes who is sixth and Melius who is eighth, Dylan Hofer of Aberdeen Christian who is third in the triple jump followed by Timothy Rucker of North Central in eighth, Ipswich’s Max Kulesa who is fourth in the 800, and sixth in the 400 followed by Ethan Schwenn of Wilmot in seventh, Leola’s Jacob Kindelspire who is fourth in the shot put and Wurtz who is fourth in the discus, Logan LaBrie of Hitchcock-Tulare who is fifth in the 200, Loken who is seventh in the 110 hurdles followed by Warner’s Beckham Cantalope in eighth, Wilmot’s Kolby Haubris who is seventh in the high jump, Payton Chasing Hawk of Hitchcock-Tulare who is eighth in the 300 hurdles, and Lucas Gulbranson of Leola who is eighth in the long jump.
The Ipswich boys are third in the 1,600-meter relay and fourth in the 800-meter relay.
Other area girls among the leaders are LaCroix who is third in the 100, followed by Breanna Jochim of Herreid-Selby Area in sixth, and Warner’s Kaydee Mackner who is eighth, Kendal Uttecht of Wolsey-Wessington who is third in the 800, Hitchcock-Tulare’s Emma Schneider who is fourth in the long jump, followed by Jochim in eighth, Samara Clemente of Wolsey-Wessington who is fourth in the triple jump followed by Schneider in fifth, and Lindsey Geier of North Central in eighth, Ipswich’s Sophia Knittel who is fifth in the 200, Danica Kaup of Potter County who is sixth in the 300 hurdles followed by Olivia Olson of Sully Buttes in eighth, Ana Ratigan of Northwestern who is sixth in the shot put followed by Rebecca Huizenga of Hitchcock-Tulare in seventh, Uttecht who is seventh in the 400, Highmore-Harrold’s Autumn Fallis who is eighth in the 1,600, Madisyn Gellhaus of Ipswich who is seventh in the 3,200 followed by Jaycee Stevens of Potter County in eighth, Annaliese Van Zee of Sully Buttes who is seventh in the javelin followed by Katelyn Schroeder of Hitchcock-Tulare in eighth, and Wolsey-Wessington’s Tate Luce who is eighth in the high jump.
Other girls’ relays include Ipswich which is third in the 1,600, and sixth in the 800 followed by Northwestern in seventh, Potter County which is third in the sprint medley, Herreid-Selby Area which is fourth in the 400 and the 800, and Warner which is fourth in the 3,200 followed by Northwestern in fifth, and Ipswich in eighth.
