SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central had the unenviable task of dealing with a pair of Class AA state softball powers on Friday.
The Golden Eagles fell to Sioux Falls Jefferson 12-2 and dropped an 11-1 decision to defending state champion Sioux Falls Lincoln.
The two Sioux Falls foes have a combined record of 26-5 so far this season.
“The girls did a great job competing and played awesome defense,” said Central coach Cassidy Neer. “They adjusted well to the different playing surfaces we played on throughout the day and battled the heat well.”
Central scored first against Jefferson when Kylee Hoffman doubled to lead off the game, moved to third on Avery Bendewald’s single, and came in to score on an error.
However, Central did not manage another hit the rest of the contest. The Golden Eagles did produce another run in the second inning on two hit-by-pitches and a error.
Jefferson, which improved to 12-3 on the season, pounded out 14 hits. The Cavaliers had six extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs.
Macy Bryant, Lauryn Bullis, and Tya Devericks each had three hits to place Roosevelt.
Things did not get any easier for the Golden Eagles against Lincoln. The Patriots, who improved to 14-2 on the season, rapped out 16 hits, nine for extra-bases. The Patriots finished with two home runs and three triples.
Adeline Roths had four hits and Paxton Dekkers followed with three.
Central had four hits in the game, including two by Bendewald, and another double from Hoffman.
The Golden Eagles scored a single run in the fourth inning thanks to a walk, single by Addison Ward, and an RBI single by Jovee Waldo.
Central is back in action today facing Sioux Falls Washington and Sioux Falls Roosevelt.
