SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central’s Mya Arampatzis was back at it again Saturday during the Howard Wood Dakota Relays.
One day after breaking a 19-year-old record in the semifinals of 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.70 seconds, the standout broke her own record in winning the finals with a clocking of 14.44.
“Mya had an excellent start in the 100 hurdles which allowed her to hold off the rest of the field and better the school record she set (Friday),” said Central girls’ coach Jim Appl.
Central’s Gracie Rife finished eight in the 100-meter dash, while Jaidyn Forsyth and Breckan Santjer just missed making the podium in the pole vault.
“Jaidyn and Breckan did a great job in the pole vault,” Appl said. “They continue to make improvement and moved to some new poles today.”
Jalyssa Hutson of Ipswich finished eighth in the pole vault.
Appl also pointed out the performance of Central’s 1,600-meter relay.
“Our 4×4 had a solid ending to our meet,” Appl said. “Shout out to Lucy Fritz running a solid anchor leg for us in her 4X4 debut.”
Many area girls’ relay squads had solid performances on the way to setting school records.
Potter County won the Class B 3,200-meter relay. Members included Dannika Kaup, Paige Ahlemeier, Jadyn Alhemeier, and Emma Schlachter.

In the other Class B relays Herreid-Selby Area was fourth and Aberdeen Christian was fifth in the 400-meter relay, in the 800-meter relay Herreid-Selby Area was fourth, Wolsey-Wessington was sixth, Ipswich was seventh, and Aberdeen Christian was eighth, in the 1,600-meter relay Ipswich was second, Sunshine Bible Academy was fifth, and Warner was eight, and in the sprint medley relay, Wolsey-Wessington was third, Sunshine Bible was fifth, and Ipswich was seventh. Ipswich was fourth in the 3,200 and Warner was seventh.

Joran Foss had a personal record in the discus, and Central’s 400-meter relay team of Eli Biegler, Caden Forred, Karson Borge, and Carter Lust just missed the podium.

“Carson Urlacher competed hard (in the 1,600) despite coming off the 3,200 late last night,” Murley said. “He didn’t quite have his legs back from (Friday) night.”
The Golden Eagles capped off the meet with a strong effort in the 1,600-meter relay.
“The 4X4 of Biegler, Fayant, (Brendan) Phillips, and (Colby) Dauwen does what our 4X4 does,” Murley said, “finishes the meet on an exciting note, battling to a seventh place finish, the third South Dakota school.”
Area athletes also had big days as Deuel’s Oliver Fieber finished second in the open 100-meter dash, Ipswich’s Kyle Hettich was seventh in the open 200-meter dash, and Miller’s Isaak Hunter was seventh in the 110-meter high hurdles.

Ipswich won the Class B 1,600-meter relay. The squad consisted of Rasmus Loken, Hettich, Casey Geditz, and Maxwell Kulesa.

Central will now gear up for the Al Sahli Invitational on Friday at Brownell Activities Complex.
