Wings double up El Paso to complete sweep at showcase

BLAINE, Minn. – The Aberdeen Wings scored three unanswered goals to grab a hockey 4-2 win over the El Paso Rhinos during the final day of the NAHL Showcase on Saturday morning. The Wings won all three of their games during the Showcase.

Luke Backel scored in the first period for Aberdeen. The Wings still trailed 2-1 in the second period before seizing the momentum for good. Ryan Flaherty tied the contest before the end of the period, and then Aberdeen used a pair of goals – one each by Jibber Kuhl and Gavin Reed – in the third to ice the win.

The Wings outshot El Paso by a whopping 45-22 margin, including 18-5 in the final 20 minutes.

Aberdeen goalie Damon Cunningham had 20 saves in net.

The Wings now start their Central Division schedule with their home opener on Friday night, taking on the Watertown Shamrocks. Puck drop is set for 7:15 p.m. at the Odde Ice Center.
