GROTON – Groton scored on a corner kick in the final minutes to grab a 1-0 girls’ soccer win of Dakota Valley in a battle of Class B powers on Tuesday afternoon.
Laila Roberts took a corner kick from teammate Brooklyn Hansen and put in the back of the net in the 75th minute to give the Tigers the victory.
“It was a back and forth game with a tough south wind made for interesting times,” said Groton coach Matt Baumgartner.
Dakota Valley had a prime opportunity to score in the opening half, but missed a penalty kick.
Groton’s Jaedyn Penning had six saves in recording her second straight shutout victory in the past four days.
Groton improved to 6-1-1 on the season, while Dakota Valley slipped to 4-3. The Tigers conclude the regular season with a contest at Garretson on Oct. 5.
Groton also won the boys’ contest over Dakota Valley 5-2. Logan Olson had two goals for the Tigers, while Easton Weber, Karson Zak and Ethan Kroll each found the back of the net once in the victory.
