GROTON – Second-rated Class A Groton received goals from eight different players, before McKenna Tietz scored the final two to finished off a hat trick as the Tigers rolled to a 10-0 girls’ soccer victory over Vermillion on Saturday.
Ryelle Gilbert, Sydney Locke, Brooklyn Hansen, Liz Fliehs, Laila Roberts, Tietz, Brenna Imrie, and Jerica Locke all found the back of the net for Groton. Tietz then capped a huge day with two more goals to go along with her three assists. Tietz now has 11 goals on the season, nearly twice as many as any Class A player in the state.
“A warm afternoon led to plenty of team rotation and an abundance of different goal scorers and contributors,” said Groton coach Matt Baumgartner.
Meanwhile, Jaedyn Penning was solid in goal for the Tigers.
“Jaedyn Penning kept busy at times as Vermillion found quality chances second half to wrap up her afternoon with a shutout and eight saves,” Baumgartner said.
The Tigers improved to 5-1-1 on the season in the team victory.
“All-around team rotation kept everybody fresh and eager to jump back in and help,” Baumgartner said.
Groton plays host to top-rated Dakota Valley in a key contest on Tuesday. The Panthers are 4-2 on the season.
