REDFIELD – There was no carry over from Tuesday night.

Aberdeen Roncali rebounded from a season-opening setback with a strong effort on the way to a 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 sweep over Redfield in a Northeast Conference volleyball match Thursday night.

“The girls played really well. They played aggressively,” said Roncalli coach Leesa Ware. “I think it was just a very nice win for us and we definitely needed it.”

The Cavaliers were led by McKenna O’Keefe who consistently found openings in the Redfield defense.

“McKenna had a great night. I was super proud of her,” Ware said. “She played just out of this world. She was aggressive. She just hit all the right spots. We told her what was open and she did it.”

With a defense focused on Ava Hanson, Roncalli setter Maddie Huber found O’Keefe on numerous occasions for kills throughout the match.

“Maddie was extremely smart tonight in figuring out which players were playing extremely well and McKenna was one of them,” Ware said. “McKenna was just on tonight. She really was. She just found all the open areas and she really listened to what their defense was doing. They would shift their defense a little bit and she’d find the open holes.”

O’Keefe finished the match with 11 kills. Hanson contributed four kills, two ace serves and eight digs. Huber collected 20 set assists, and Rylee Voeller had a team-leading 10 digs.

“It was a very solid effort all the way around,” Ware said. “Every single player on the court really stepped up and even some of the girls on the bench, they got to see some playing time, also, so all around a really, really good team effort.”

Cecilia Suchor topped Redfield with six kills, and Hayden Gall had 14 set assists.

Roncalli plays at Miller on Tuesday. The Rustlers were rated fourth in the preseason poll.

“We’re going to practice hard and were going to get ready for Miller on Tuesday,” Ware said. “We’re going to watch some game film (Friday) and figure out just those little mistakes that we were making tonight and see if we can correct those, and be ready to roll for Tuesday.”
