VERMILLION – Aberdeen Roncalli concluded its golf season on a strong note, placing three members among the top 25 during the final day of the State A Tournament at The Bluffs Golf Course on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers finished fourth as a team with a two-day total of 642, including a 315 score during the second round.

Roncalli was led by Finn Anderson who tied for ninth with a 154, Harper Schnabel who tied for 19th with 159, and Lucas Daggett who tied for 21st with a 160.

“I’m happy for the boys,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “All had good days today.”

Schnabel finished with a 72 over the final 18 holes. The Cavaliers as a team were a dozen strokes better than their total on Monday

“They mentally stayed in it today,” Murdy said, “and the scores show it.”

Milbank’s Jonathan DeBoer also improved his score, shooting a 72 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for ninth with a 154.

Dakota Valley edged Vermillion for the state team championship by four strokes.

Hayden Heig of St. Thomas More won the individual state title by seven strokes finishing with a 36-hole total of 138.

Roncalli returns the majority of its team next year, losing just one player to graduation.

“Many things to build on for the future,” Murdy said.
